Earth's Code
I've often wondered if people would keep the commandments and be obedient to the laws and covenants of the gospel if they knew they would get nothing as an immediate reward
For example: if someone knew they would for certain remain in fincancial strife after they paid tithing, would they still have enough faith to pay tithing?
I would hope the answer is yes, because, even if a person pays their tithing and recieves no immediate blessings for it, they still have contributed to a much greater cause that blesses the lives of members of the church around the entire world.
What reward did Jesus Christ recieve for his services? Eternal life? Godhood? Fame? Fortune? All of those would be adequate reasons for any one person to go through what He went through, yet all of them fall short of the actual message of the life of Christ, and that is, to love Heavenly Father over all other people and things, and to love everyone as well as yourself.
If love is what guides you to obedience, then you'll never need an immediate reward, because the currents of your life will calm, and the storms of your life will cease, and new things will grow from the rain that was falling.
Look to your own, personal experiences, if you have them, to remind you of the greater purpose of obedience, and the everlasting benefits of commandments and covenants. Also, hold close to you the lives of those who have gone before you. Keep their records unchanged, and take them at face value. Trust your ancestors and the accounts of others, that they weren't gullible and naive, but that they knew for certain of what they bear witness, and what they had seen with their own eyes and felt with their own minds and hearts. Do the same with the scriptures, leaving no personal interpretation, but literal and actual interpretation of the events and witnesses on record within all volumes of true scripture.
And all things done in the name of Jesus Christ.
These are what floats in the pools of death, and love is what buoys them until they reach the eternal shores where life abounds unceasingly. With God and Our families.
