For My Children

If you happen to sin, and it feels good, don't be alarmed. Of course certain sins are going to feel good--you might even feel no shame or regret from doing it--and it's because you are a creature. Creatures seek mostly to survive and reproduce, both of which are necessary with a body. So, if you experience something regarding those two necessities, the creature will enjoy it, and even want it. The spirit, however, will not always approve of practices related to those necessities.

The spirit doesn't want to feel good, the spirit wants what we best know as happiness. The body, or creature, will always want to feel good, especially in the moment. It takes practice to find balance between the two, just like balancing a yard stick on your finger, keeping the two ends evenly apart from the center.

It's apparent that the unique condition of having both spirit and body can lead to feeling both good and happy. How so? The guidelines are found within sacred covenants, the scriptures, and the standards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
